In the heart of Rwanda, halfway between the capital of Kigali and the stunning Lake Kivu, the Sholi Cooperative (Abateraninkunga ba Sholi) lives up to its name, which means "Mutual Assistance" in Kinyarwanda. What began in 2008 as a women's association called "Kundwa" ("love") has flourished into a thriving cooperative of 386 members, nearly half of whom are women.

The cooperative's commitment to their community extends far beyond coffee production. Through various initiatives, they've established:
  • A regional health center providing vital medical services
  • A community center serving local residents
  • Comprehensive healthcare programs including malaria treatment and nutritional education
  • Sustainable farming practices with over 400,000 trees planted
The Story Behind Your Coffee
Sholi's dedication to sustainability is evident in their robust reforestation efforts. The cooperative has consistently expanded their environmental impact, planting tens of thousands of new trees annually and maintaining dual certification in both Fairtrade and Rainforest Alliance standards.

This coffee represents not just exceptional quality in the cup, but a model of how coffee cooperatives can drive positive change in their communities while producing outstanding coffee.
